Pete Hegseth's week is 'about to get worse' — and it's not about war crimes: MS NOW host

As Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth faces increasing scrutiny for reportedly being part of a war crime, his first blunder as Pentagon chief is about to raise its head again, according to an analyst.

During a discussion on MS NOW’s “Morning Joe” about the latest scandal engulfing Donald Trump’s appointee, co-host Jonathan Lemire pointed out that a report on the so-called “Signalgate” fiasco has been sent to lawmakers and is expected to be released in the coming days.

As he told his co-hosts, “A bad week for Pete Hegseth? It's about to get worse. Remember Signalgate when Pete Hegseth texted those on classified plans on Signal?”

“Now, is this where he went on a public app?” co-host Scarborough joked. “Yeah. And said the kind of like Martin Sheen and The Dead Zone. ‘Gentlemen, the missiles are flying.’ In this case, he was saying we're going to be launching an attack.”

He then added, “You just couldn't do anything more reckless or irresponsible as far as putting people's lives in danger when they're about to go on a mission.”

“And the Pentagon's inspector general investigation into Signalgate — that report has been transmitted to the Hill and will be released this week,” Lemire responded. “So Pete Hegseth, already under fire now, will have this as well.”

Turning to MS NOW contributor Richard Hass, he added, “If there was ever a moment for the administration to turn the page on Pete Hegseth, Richard, it would seem like this could be it.”

“This could be it,” Haas agreed. “This president, though, this time around, doesn't want to see Trump 1.0 repeated. So he's obviously going to dig in as long as he can until he can't.”
