An attempt by an MSNBC host to diminish reporting that so-called ‘border czar” Tom Homan took $50,000 from undercover federal investigators last year got some quick pushback from a Democrat serving in the House on Tuesday.
Appearing on MSNBC with host Anna Cabrera, Rep. Melanie Stansbury (D-NM) bluntly stated that the embattled Homan was guilty of bribery and that Democrats would absolutely investigate it, which was when Cabrera protested.
"You're on House Oversight, is this case closed?” Cabrera asked.
“Absolutely not,“ the lawmaker shot back. “Tom Homan committed bribery. The man literally took $50,000 in cash.”
Laughing, she added, “I love this, in a fast food chain bag to give out government contracts. And while he may not personally be the person signing off on these contracts, we also know that he was lobbying for border security firms.”
“It’s very obvious that Mr. Homan has engaged in bribery,” she later added, at which point Cabrera interjected, “Although he never faced any charges, we know it was an ongoing investigation.”
“Well, DOJ buried the case,” Stansbury shot back. “They decided to stop investigating it and we've seen just in the last few days that they're involved in a cover-up. And we've seen this cover-up over and over and over again, where the Trump administration commits crimes. They have some sort of internal corrupt process and then they engage in a cover-up. And it's the same story every single time, whether it's the Epstein files or it's Tom Homan.”
