Attorneys for Hunter Biden said that their client will not appear at a public hearing on the impeachment of his father, President Joe Biden.

In a letter to House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY), attorney Abbe Lowell said there was a scheduling conflict with a criminal case.

But Lowell described what went on saying scheduling is "the least of the issues."

"Your blatant planned-for-media event is not a proper proceeding but an obvious attempt to throw a Hail Mary pass after the game has ended," he wrote.

Hunter Biden recently sat for a deposition with House Republicans for more than six hours. Comer invited him to also appear at a March 6 public hearing on impeachment.

A report Wednesday suggested that House Republicans are searching for an "off-ramp" to end the impeachment inquiry into Biden after it was hit by several "embarrassing setbacks."

Not least was the arrest of a key witness who claimed to have evidence that Biden and his son received bribes from Ukrainian businessmen.

The witness, Alexander Smirnov, was later arrested and charged with lying to the FBI. He's suspected of being connected to Russian intelligence.
