A Republican congressman got called out by a CNN host for his double standard for holding individuals in contempt of Congress.
The House Oversight Committee has subpoenaed Hunter Biden and James Biden, the son and brother of President Joe Biden, and Rep. Greg Murphy (R-NC) told CNN's John Berman that lawmakers would consider holding them in contempt of Congress if they didn't comply.
"Why would they not?" Murphy said. "Why the hell would Hunter and Jim create 20 shell companies to be legal? We have seen time and time again, and Rep. Comer has proven this, there was money influencing peddling that Biden had his last couple years as vice president, and then they wanted to gain the money back."
Berman interrupted to ask why Murphy would consider holding Biden's son and brother in contempt when he had voted against holding Steve Bannon in contempt for refusing to comply with a congressional subpoena.
"Well, I think it's a little bit different when you have a president, when you have someone who's not an elected official, yet the president of the United States is selling his influence, his son was selling his influence," Murphy said. "It's a little higher standard when you have somebody who's in an elected office, versus someone who's not in elected office.
Berman asked what office either Biden's son or brother were holding, and Murphy asked what elected position Bannon held.
"Well, tell me what office Hunter Biden was in," Berman said, and Murphy said he was referring to the president himself.
"You haven't subpoenaed him," Berman shot back.
