Special Counsel Jack Smith's office is asking for transcripts from the disbarment trial of the former Donald Trump attorney John Eastman, Politico reported.
According to Politico's Kyle Cheney and Josh Gerstein, the request shows that prosecutors still have their eye on Eastman, who played a significant role in Trump's attempts to delegitimize the results of the 2020 election. He is one of six alleged Trump co-conspirators in Smith's federal indictment against Trump in D.C., although he has not been charged in connection with that case.
"It's a rare recent sign of ongoing activity by the special counsel's office," Cheney said on social media on Thursday.
"The transcript order request was lodged as an entry on the docket in the State Bar Court of California, where state authorities are attempting to strip Eastman of his law license. An order form obtained by POLITICO shows the transcripts were delivered to a room at the Justice Department that Smith’s team has listed on court filings," Politico's report stated.

It's not known if Smith is considering charging Eastman in the D.C. case. As Politico points out, Eastman has been charged in the Jan. 6 case against Trump in Georgia.
Eastman's attorney told Politico that he welcomes Smith's move to obtain the transcripts.
“Professor Eastman invites the Special Counsel and anyone else who is interested to examine the records of his case before the California State Bar,” the attorney, Charles Burnham, said. “The evidence showed that his actions and legal assessments were well grounded in both fact and law, and that he definitively and faithfully complied with his duty of zealous advocacy for his client and of candor to courts, and that he honored his oath to the Constitution.”
