Rep. James Comer's (R-KY) latest Oversight Committee hearing with IRS employees who claim to be "whistleblowers" disgusted one of the Republican's former colleagues.
Taking to Twitter as the hearing came to a close, former Rep. Denver Riggleman (R-VA), once a tea party Republican, said that he was "ashamed" of what he witnessed.
"As a former Republican member of Congress and intelligence officer, today I am ashamed," he typed. "I am ashamed of my former colleagues and their abhorrent behavior during the Oversight Committee hearing. We have to be better than this."
Rep. Dan Goldman (D-NY) attacked Rep. Jim Jordan for a "flat-out lie about what U.S. Attorney David Weiss wrote to him in a June 30 letter."
Posting a video of Jordan, Goldman explained, "Weiss' letter states clearly that he had ultimate authority and explained in more detail how he did — Jordan says he says he did not. More blatant misinformation from the GOP."
One analyst couldn't help but note how things like this could ultimately harm Republicans in the upcoming election.
Legal analyst Aaron Parnas remarked that what he observed from the Oversight Committee hearing "proved exactly why Democrats will take back the House in 2024." Republicans, he continued, "are too focused on conspiracy theories to effectivly govern."
