Jasmine Crockett spills tea on 'safest' choice being eyed for Dem's presidential candidate

Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) told Clay Cane and Reecie Colbert on SiriusXM's Urban View that after Democrats' failure in 2024, party donors will seek "the safest white boy" they can find to back to avoid rocking the boat in 2028.

“It is this fear that the people within the party, within the primary system, will have about voting for a woman because every time we voted for a woman, we've lost so far," said Crockett, who has recently become a target for racially-charged invective from President Donald Trump.

"And I think that that's a natural fear because we just want to win. So there's a lot of people that are like, you know what? Like, let's go find the safest white boy we can find."

In fact, Crockett said, from her insider observations of Democratic fundraising, that may already be happening.

"I can tell you that there is one specific candidate. I had a donor on the phones with me telling me that all the donors are lining up behind that candidate. So I can tell you, it's not a Black person nor a woman, okay? So they have — quote unquote, 'they' — have chosen." She went on to clarify that by "they," she meant "the same donors that most likely had their opinions about Joe Biden."

Crockett, who previously served as a public defender before entering politics, is currently mounting a bid to take over as ranking member on the House Oversight Committee, after long having been one of the more outspoken fighters against the GOP on the Democratic side in committee hearings. But, she told Cane and Colbert, she expects party leadership doesn't want her in that role.

"I think your callers are very well aware of systems that still prevent even those of us who really want to prove that our party is the party of the people," she said. "There is an inside, outside game. I mean, I think if the outside could vote, then I would be the clear winner. I think that the average person would say, we trust her as a messenger. We also trust her as the prosecutor of the case against Donald Trump, which is on Oversight, what we are supposed to do.”

She wants the role, she added, because "people need to believe that Democrats are listening, and that they are going to give them the fighter that they are looking for to go after this man and this administration because they are harming us and they don't want someone who potentially is gonna play nice."

The full town hall will be broadcast on May 15.
