Donald Trump has found a new autocrat to love, and he may be leaving the country to visit him.
Argentine libertarian Javier Milei's press secretary said the former U.S. president will visit Buenos Aires after the pair spoke by phone, reported Reuters.
Milei, a self-described "anarcho libertarian," pledged economic shock therapy, including a shutdown of the central bank and abandoning the peso, will take office Dec. 10 after winning about 56 percent of the vote.
“Voters want figures from recognizably outside the political establishment who basically want to punch the establishment," said Steven Levitsky, a Harvard University political scientist and co-author of “How Democracies Die."
Milei was often compared to Trump during his campaign, and his supporters often wore “Make Argentina Great Again” hats and T-shirts.
“What Trump did was he broke the rules of how you talk about things," said Gimena Sánchez-Garzoli, director for the Andes at the Washington Office on Latin America. “I think he made it okay to go after your opponents in a very no-holds-barred, no respect, exterminate them at any point way."
