President Donald Trump on Thursday tapped Fox News host and former judge Jeanine Pirro as interim U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia following speculation she would be tapped for the top prosecutorial job.
“I am pleased to announce that Judge Jeanine Pirro will be appointed interim United States Attorney for the District of Columbia,” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post, adding that the MAGA host “excelled in all ways” in her legal career.
“In addition to her Legal career, Jeanine previously hosted her own Fox News Show, Justice with Judge Jeanine, for ten years, and is currently Co-Host of The Five, one of the Highest Rated Shows on Television,” Trump added. “Jeanine is incredibly well qualified for this position, and is considered one of the Top District Attorneys in the History of the State of New York.”

The move comes after Trump’s original nominee, Ed Martin, failed to gain enough support in the Senate for confirmation. Pirro, a longtime Trump ally and vocal defender of his administration on Fox News, previously served as an assistant district attorney in New York and a county judge.
“She is in a class by herself,” Trump wrote Thursday. “Congratulations Jeanine!”
