'This is what you get!' Morning Joe hoots with joy as White House fights with Jeff Bezos

MSNBC's Joe Scarborough hooted with derision at Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos after the White House took aim at his company's latest move.

The online retailer announced it would display the costs added to individual items because of President Donald Trump's tariffs, which White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt branded a "hostile and political act."

The "Morning Joe" host laughed out loud at the tech mogul for cozying up to the president — and getting seemingly nothing in return.

"Oh my God," Scarborough said, wheezing with laughter. "This is what you get, this is what you get, right, for kowtowing, right? So they've got Jeff Bezos – why don't they just put a communist Chinese flag? Way to go, Jeff, that really worked. You rented a couple of weeks, and now they're calling you a commie."

"All he's doing is what you do when you put the prices on things, you say what the taxes are," added co-host Mika Brzezinski. "That's what this is."

"This is about consumers, right?" Scarborough continued. "This is about consumers, so if you're Amazon, you make your money from consumers, so it's not really, it's not a hostile act and it's not a political act, in my opinion – just in my opinion. This is this is an economic decision to say we, you know, we don't want to piss off our customers.

"We want them to know why why all of these items are going up 25 [percent], 30 percent, so it really does prove, though, again, what conservative newspapers like the Wall Street Journal editorial page has been saying, the National Review, what right-wing economists have been saying for a very long time, and that is that that tariffs are taxes on consumers."

"They just are, so I don't know why they'd be upset if Amazon or Walmart or these people decided to actually show this is how much the tariffs are going to cost, but we'll see what happens," he added. "I'm sure Bezos will back down."
