A former GOP communications strategist on Tuesday issued a stark warning about President Donald Trump's attacks against late-night host Jimmy Kimmel.
Tara Setmayer, co-founder of The Seneca Project, joined MSNBC's Jason Johnson on "The Beat" to discuss Trump's attacks against Kimmel. Her comments come at a time when FCC chair Brendan Carr is pressuring Nexstar Media Group and Sinclair Broadcast Group, which owns multiple local ABC affiliates, to remove Kimmel's eponymous show from the airwaves because of comments the comedian made about the slain conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
"We need to understand something here, and that is Sinclair is a Trump-supported company, so is Nexstar," Setmayer said. "They have a $6 billion merger that has to get approved by the FCC. So, once again, Donald Trump and his MAGA minions, his lackies that he placed there, are doing exactly what he told them to do. And that is to weaponize the government against his political opponents."
"When you put this in its totality and you see what they're doing, this attack against political dissent, against Trump's perceived political opponents, it's all to control the flow of information, the propaganda, and the lies that Trump and MAGA perpetrate without pushback," Setmayer added.
"Truth is under assault, as well as our free speech," she continued. "James Madison is rolling in his grave!"
