President Donald Trump has suggested more "lucrative" lawsuits for him are on the horizon in the fallout over Disney and ABC suspending Jimmy Kimmel's late-night show — and a Republican lawmaker said on Wednesday that Trump has the right to.
CNN Anchor Boris Sanchez posed a pointed question for Rep. Carlos Giménez (R-FL) in a conversation about Disney and ABC's move to pause Kimmel's show.
"Do you think it's appropriate for the president to suggest that he's going to test out ABC over the comedian's comments, that it could be lucrative for him?" Sanchez said.
"I'm not sure what testing out means," Giménez said.
"He alluded to a lawsuit that he settled with ABC News for $16 million. So I guess the implication would be that there would be further litigation," Sanchez said.
Giménez said it was up to Trump and that he could potentially sue ABC again.
"It all depends on if he feels that he's being slandered," Giménez said. "Then he absolutely has the right to take legal action against whoever he feels is slandering him."
"I'm not in favor of any kind of censorship," Giménez added. "Not now, and certainly not during the Biden administration, and the government has no business in trying to censor anybody, even for dumb remarks."
"People are allowed to have dumb remarks, even on the air," Giménez continued.
