'The clouds could be purple!' CNN host mocks conservative with ludicrous example

CNN's Kate Bolduan mocked a conservative guest's suggestion that Joe Biden was not aware of the decisions he was making as president.

President Donald Trump ordered an investigation into the former president's use of "autopen" signatures, accusing his aides of using the automated procedure to cover his alleged cognitive decline and unlawfully assert executive power, and Republican strategist Brad Todd told "CNN News Central" there was some basis to his claims.

"Every president does use the autopen," Todd said. "The question is, did Joe Biden know what the autopen was being used for?"

Biden himself issued a statement Wednesday asserting that he made his own decisions as president and dismissed the allegations as "ridiculous and false," and Bolduan offered a ludicrous example to demonstrate the folly of Todd's acceptance of Trump's claims.

"Again, there is no there literally is no suggestion that he didn't," Bolduan said. "That's the, we don't – I also don't know if the clouds above me could be purple because right now I'm in a studio. It doesn't mean I want to launch a federal investigation into it. That's the point."

Todd attempted to save face with a joke about Biden's former press secretary revealing that she had left the Democratic Party as she begins promoting her new book.

"Maybe Karine Jean-Pierre will tell us in her new book," he said, chuckling.

"I think there are much better resources that our Justice Department could be focusing on, frankly, than you know, this, in particular," added Kendra Barkoff, who served as Biden's press secretary when he was vice president.

"To say the least," Bolduan replied.
