Trump's defense secretary hoped election loss would be 'clean and clear' in fear of troops being called in: new book

Donald Trump's former defense secretary hoped the Nov. 3 election would be quickly and clearly settled for fear the commander in chief would call out troops to keep himself in office, according to a new book.

Washington Post reporters Carol Leonnig and Philip Rucker revealed in their forthcoming book, "I Alone Can Fix It: Donald J. Trump's Catastrophic Final Year," that then-Defense secretary Mark Esper and other top Pentagon officials were focused on keeping the peace -- and the lifelong Republican found himself rooting for Democrat Joe Biden to win.

GOP state parties enforcing Trump 'purity tests' and punishing anyone who falls short

Donald Trump and his team have been installing loyalists in leadership posts in state Republican Party organizations, and they're punishing anyone who challenges the former president's ownership of the GOP.

Pro-Trump party chairs are endorsing primary challengers to GOP incumbents like Sen. James Lankford (R-OK), who voted to certify Joe Biden's election win, joking about assassinating GOP House members who voted to impeach the former president, and censuring or rebuking lawmakers who haven't shown enough fealty, reported Politico.

White House changes their pitch in effort to get infrastructure across the finish line: report

The White House is shifting its messaging strategy for its infrastructure after receiving criticism from Democrats "across the ideological spectrum," Politico reported Monday.

"Its reemergence is, in part, an effort to placate Democrats and progressives who raised concerns that the myriad proposals that made up an ambitious infrastructure agenda had become too confusing to explain to supporters."

Eric Adams talks gun violence with Biden at White House, plays coy on whether he’d expand NYPD as mayor

New York City’s Democratic mayoral hopeful Eric Adams and President Joe Biden found plenty of common ground Monday as they met at the White House for a strategy session on how to stem a nationwide surge in shootings. But the two men struck slightly different tones on whether police departments like the NYPD should be expanded as part of the effort. The Brooklyn borough president, who was declared the winner of the city’s Democratic mayoral primary last week, said after the sit-down with Biden that he does not necessarily see a need for growing out the New York Police Department if he takes ove...

Trump supporters think they're players — but they're still just pawns

Do Donald Trump supporters actually believe the Big Lie?

We know they certainly like telling pollsters they do. The latest polling from Monmouth University shows that 63% of Republican voters continue to insist that Joe Biden only won the 2020 election because of voter fraud. But is this something they really believe, or something they simply say out of tribalist loyalties because they believe that repeating the lie is useful justification for the GOP war on voting?
