On the evening of Monday, August 1st, 2023, FitchRatings lowered the United States' credit "default rating" from 'AAA' to 'AA+', which the agency stated, "reflects the expected fiscal deterioration over the next three years, a high and growing general government debt burden, and the erosion of governance relative to 'AA' and 'AAA' rated peers over the last two decades that has manifested in repeated debt limit standoffs and last-minute resolutions."

Obama warns Biden of Trump's 'iron grip' in private meeting: report

Former President Barack Obama is warning Democrats and President Joe Biden not to expect former President Donald Trump to be a pushover in the 2024 presidential election.

Despite the fact that Trump was found liable for sexually abusing writer E. Trump megadonor is now throwing cash at RFK Jr.: report

Although 69-year-old Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. is a member of Massachusetts' most famous Democratic family, his 2024 presidential campaign has been applauded by some far-right MAGA Republicans — including Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and former Fox News host Tucker Carlson, both of whom appreciate his disdain for vaccines and love of conspiracy theories. DeSantis has even said that if he were elected president, he would consider Kennedy for a position in his administration.

Another RFK Jr. cheerleader on the MAGA right, according to The Guardian's Mary Yang, is 81-year-old businessman and Donald Trump megadonor Timothy Mellon. Yang reports that American Values 2024, an RFK Jr.-associated super-PAC, received a $5 million donation from him.

New details emerge in Michigan GOP fight in which delegate kicked county chair in the groin

Critics of the Michigan Republican Party have complained that instead of becoming more moderate, they have responded to major disappointments by becoming more extreme.

Those disappointments, for the Michigan GOP, range from now-President Joe Biden winning the state in 2020 to Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer defeating far-right GOP challenger Tudor Dixon by 11 percent in 2022. The Michigan GOP is presently headed by Kristina Karamo, a conspiracy theorist and Big Lie promoter who ran for Michigan secretary of state but lost badly to incumbent Democrat Jocelyn Benson.

Trump committed crimes in plain sight – and even his supporters are victims: columnist

Donald Trump committed one of the crimes he's accused of right out in the open for all to see, according to a new analysis.

The twice-impeached president was indicted Tuesday for a third time, with this case involving efforts to overturn his 2020 election loss. But Washington Post columnist Philip Bump argued that Trump made clear all along that he intended to exploit the gap between counting votes cast on Election Day and the final tabulation of all votes, including ballots cast by mail, to pretend the election had been stolen.

'Toddler who found a pistol': Tommy Tuberville roasted by Alabama columnist for costing state jobs

Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) was called out this week by Alabama columnist Kyle Whitmire after his antics cost his home state the opportunity to be the new headquarters of America's Space Command.

In his latest column, Whitmire described Tuberville as a "a toddler who found a pistol on the nightstand" and fired it off indiscriminately when he decided to place a hold on military promotions to protest the United States Armed Forces' abortion policies.
