Paul Krugman schools Kevin McCarthy for 'transparently dishonest' comments about the Biden economy

In his column for the New York Times, Nobel Prize-winning economist Paul Krugman called out House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) for using the price of gas to attack President Joe Biden saying it is yet one more example of the Republican leader's "dishonesty."

Pointing out that McCarthy tweeted, "These are not Putin gas prices. They are President Biden gas prices,” the economist wrote, "Kevin McCarthy, the Republican House minority leader, said something cynical and transparently dishonest the other day," and then added, "... you could have said the same thing about him just about any week over the past few years. But this particular statement seemed important, because it involved a lie that has a direct bearing on how America will respond to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine."

'How is our White House any better than Russia?' Fox News host attacks Biden for briefing TikTok stars

A Fox News segment on Tuesday suggested that President Joe Biden's government is not "any better" than Russia because White House staff met with TikTok stars for a briefing about Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

After playing a clip of TikTok influencer Ellie Zeiler explaining how the invasion has impacted gas prices, Fox News host Rachel Campos-Duffy compared the U.S. to Russia.

Nomination of Sarah Bloom Raskin for Fed seat in doubt after Manchin opposition

U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin III will not support one of President Joe Biden’s picks to sit on the Federal Reserve Board, Sarah Bloom Raskin of Maryland, Manchin said Monday.

The announcement casts serious doubt on the chances of Senate confirmation for Raskin, who was a Fed governor from 2010 to 2014 and deputy Treasury secretary from 2014 to 2017. She is married to U.S. Rep. Jamie Raskin, a Maryland Democrat.

Is America the 'world's greatest democracy'? We don't even crack the top 50 in 2022

Nations are built on myths and lies — mixed, of course, with bits of the truth. The United States is no different, but our nation's myths and lies are more extravagant than most: America, we are told to believe, is an "exceptional" or "indispensable" nation, the world's greatest democracy, a shining city on a hill.

Those beliefs are delusional, sometimes to the extreme. While the American experiment in democracy is historically important, for most of its existence the United States was an overtly racist nation whose democracy was defined by exclusion: First and foremost the exclusion of Black people and women, but also the exclusion of Native Americans, many nonwhite immigrant groups and poor people in general.

Trump appointees are helping Texas derail Biden’s agenda

On President Joe Biden's first day in office, he announced a moratorium placing a hundred-day pause on deportations for some undocumented immigrants.

By the end of that week, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton filed the first of what would become a string of lawsuits against the Biden administration, claiming the moratorium was illegal.

U.S. District Judge Drew Tipton, a Trump appointee in Corpus Christi, issued an injunction, ruling the Biden moratorium violated federal administrative procedure. The lawsuit was eventually dismissed without the moratorium going into effect.

Why FDR's New Deal is still the blueprint for domestic success

After Joe Biden won the election, and after the White House began pushing passage of the nearly $2 trillion American Jobs Plan, there was a lot of talk about the new president being the next Franklin Roosevelt.

I wanted to believe it, but being the skeptic that I am, I figured this was more propaganda than genuine belief by the 46th president. But after watching an interview with historian Heather Cox Richardson, it seems these are not mere words. Biden really sees history pivoting.

Kamala Harris to headline summit to promote equal pay

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris will host a virtual summit on Tuesday to celebrate Equal Pay Day, announcing moves to boost pay equity for new federal workers and employees of federal contractors.

Last month, the team won a $24-million settlement.

Florida families of Americans detained in Venezuela ask Biden to keep going with Maduro talks

WASHINGTON — The families of eight U.S. citizens who remain imprisoned in Venezuela have come to President Joe Biden’s defense over his outreach to the nation’s autocratic leader, Nicolás Maduro, asking him to stay the course with dialogue in the face of political headwinds at home. Maduro released two Americans last week after meeting March 5 with senior U.S. officials in Caracas — the first high-level engagement between the two countries in years. While lawmakers in Washington have praised Biden for securing the release of the Americans, both Democrats and Republicans have expressed concern ...

Eric Trump says his dad is better suited for war because he's BFFs with Putin

The Fox network appears to be confused about its messaging when it comes to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Over the weekend, however, Fox host Maria Bartiromo tried to make the case that President Joe Biden was being soft on the war because he's on Vladimir Putin's side.

That seemed to fly in the face of Donald Trump's son Eric, who told Fox on Monday that the reason his father would be better at handling the war against Ukraine was that Trump was friends with Putin. Critics noted that in World War II, Mussolini was friends with Hitler. Churchill, however, was not.

WATCH: Former Atlanta mayor smacks down Mitch McConnell adviser for suggesting Democrats are soft on crime

On CNN Monday, longtime Mitch McConnell strategist Scott Jennings suggested Democrats have pursued criminal justice policy that is soft on crime — but former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms was quick to respond.

"Republicans, I think, are going to use the crime issue in this midterm election," said Jennings. "You're going to see Republicans point to Democrat-run cities where violent crime is up ... where you have New York City and the prosecutor and the mayor, frankly, who are endorsing decriminalizing actions, and Joe Biden said, I would like to see others follow the New York City lead, you're going to see this in the context."

Ginni Thomas confirmed she was present at Donald Trump's "Stop the Steal" rally that preceded the Jan. 6 insurrection.

The wife of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas told the Washington Free Beacon that she briefly attended the rally but got cold and left before Trump addressed his supporters, some of whom then descended on the U.S. Capitol and stormed inside as Congress certified Joe Biden's election win.

Trump voters having doubts about 'America First' policy as Ukraine fights off Russian aggression

The war in Ukraine has tested the limits of Donald Trump's "America First" policy for some of his supporters.

A recent survey found broad bipartisan support for punitive sanctions against Russia and its president Vladimir Putin, and self-described loyal Trump voters are alarmed by the death and destruction, reported NBC News.
