MSNBC legal analyst Joyce Vance said on Monday that Judge Tanya Chutkan was very skillfully allowing former President Donald Trump to further incriminate himself by violating a gag order she placed on him.

During a segment discussing Trump apparently violating Chutkan's gag order by once again attacking "deranged Jack Smith" on his Truth Social platform, Vance argued Chutkan was being wise to let Trump keep making inflammatory statements, at least for the time being.

"She is an experienced judge, and she is doing exactly the right thing here," said Vance. "She's building a record. If you are thinking of sanctioning a defendant for violating a gag order, make sure whatever you do will be upheld on appeal. You don't want the court of appeals to reverse you."

To further emphasize this point, Vance added that "Judge Chutkan is making sure she's giving [Trump], essentially, enough rope to hang himself here."

Trump on Sunday night went on an angry Truth Social tirade against not only Jack Smith but also New York Attorney General Letitia James and President Joe Biden, whom he blames for the fact that he's now been slapped with 91 different felony charges in four different jurisdictions.
