As she ramps up her bid for a seat in the U.S. Senate representing Arizona, former local news broadcaster Kari Lake is finding her slash-and-burn run for the governorship in 2020 is coming back to haunt her.
According to a report from the Washington Post, Lake left a lot of bruised feelings during her 2020 run among conservatives in the state with her attacks on what she called "McCain Republicans," and now she is reaching out and trying to mend fences.
As the Post is reporting, Lake has yet to rack up much in the way of GOP endorsements besides one from Donald Trump, who also lost the state in 2020, leading to them both claiming election fraud.
Lake reportedly believes she has a shot at the seat currently held by Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, who left the Democratic Party to become an independent, and Rep. Rueben Gallego who is expected to be the Democratic nominee.
The former newscaster is reportedly roaming the state and making appeals to Republicans while explaining that her "McCain Republican" attacks were "made in jest" in the early stage of her losing gubernatorial bid.

As of yet, Lake, despite her frontrunner status, has not been the recipient of the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC), with the NRSC’s chairman, Sen. Steve Daines (R-MT) explaining, "We’re considering it. She is one of the most talented candidates running in 2024.”
One prominent Republican in the state who was the subject of attacks from Lake, former Rep. Matt Salmon, is unwilling to jump on the Lake train.
According to Salmon, he has not heard from Lake, with the Post reporting, "He also said that he would never support her candidacy after her disparaging treatment of her opponents, an approach that contributed to her 17,000-vote loss.

In an interview, he explained, "Short of an engraved apology, I wouldn’t consider helping her with anything," before adding, "She employs the politics of personal destruction, and she’ll say anything — the most vile things in the world — to get ahead. And, I’m sorry, I just can’t forget that.”
