Failed Arizona gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake to run for U.S. Senate: WSJ

Failed Arizona gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake is going to jump into the race to be a United States senator, reports the Wall Street Journal.

Lake, who has still not conceded her 2022 loss to Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs, is expected to officially launch her senate campaign next month at an October 10th rally.

"We need to get a senator in there who is going to fight back and put America first," Lake told the Journal in an interview.

As the Journal notes, Lake rose to fame for her full-throated backing of former President Donald Trump's false claims that the 2020 election was "stolen" from him, and she also infamously attacked the late Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) and his supporters in a move that many political observers say cost her key votes in a tight election.

POLL: Should Trump be allowed to run for office?

Despite this, Lake has not changed her approach and has continued to insist without evidence that she won the 2022 gubernatorial election.

Even though a candidate with Lake's baggage might be assumed to be dead on arrival, she has an opening given that next year's Senate race could split the center-left vote if both current Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (I-AZ) and challenger Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) are both on the ballot in the general election.
