Karoline Leavitt has landed her next job less than two months after leaving Donald Trump's embattled White House: she's joining Fox News.
According to The New York Times, Leavitt, who served as Trump's press secretary and chief spokeswoman until August, will start Nov. 1 as an on-air contributor, the network said Monday. She is expected to offer commentary across numerous Fox shows, in "both opinion and news programming."
Leavitt, 29, was the youngest person ever appointed White House press secretary. The Times said she established herself as "an unflinching advocate for the president." Trump gushed over her verbal fusillades and has said her lips "move like a 'machine gun.'" She often criticized mainstream media outlets and sparred with reporters in the briefing room.
After giving birth to her second child, Leavitt went on maternity leave in May and ultimately said she would leave the White House to spend more time with her young children. At the time, she vowed to "remain a vocal advocate for MAGA and the Republican Party."
Trump's approval numbers, meanwhile, are weak. An AP-NORC poll conducted Sept. 24-28 found that 31% of Americans approve of his job performance and just 26% approve of his handling of the economy, which Forbes described as another all-time low.
Her new employer "has close ties to Trump," who is defended nightly by prime-time hosts like Sean Hannity and Jesse Watters. Lara Trump, the president's daughter-in-law, hosts a weekly show on the network, and cabinet secretaries regularly appear on its programs.
But "the relationship is complicated," the Times notes. Last week, Trump declared on social media that Fox airs "a completely negative narrative" and added that "MAGA, and REAL Patriots, will never like Fox!" On Sunday, he fired off another post lambasting "Fox & Friends" and complaining that the network took his ally Maria Bartiromo off the air.
