Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton reportedly went against the advice of his own staff members to take what Fox News is describing as a "shadowy" trip to China.
Leaked documents obtained by the network show that Paxton and several other attorneys general went to China in a trip sponsored by the Attorney General Alliance (AGA) and Conference of Western Attorneys General (CWAG) back in 2019 even though Paxton's aides thought it was a bad idea.
"Paxton — accompanied on the trip by his wife Angela, a Texas state senator — was not required to report the trip and ultimately attended against wishes from staffers who raised potential government influence and surveillance concerns," reports Fox News.
And unlike other attorneys general who went on the trip to China, Paxton never reported it, although he was not required to do so under Texas law.

The report adds that the Attorney General Alliance "has received criticism for allegedly selling access to special interests" in the form of its trips, although the report does not list any alleged wrongdoing by Paxton or any of the other AGs who attended the trip.
Paxton's impeachment earlier this year had to do with actions he allegedly took to abuse his power to help a donor to his campaign and had nothing to do with any potential foreign influence.
