Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) announced he's exiting Congress at the end of the month — and the dancing on his grave was swift to begin.
While McCarthy was one of the best at raising money for members, as a leader he was troubled. It took him 15 rounds to win the speaker's ballot in January this year, and he held it until just October. His critics among his own members complained that he talked out of both sides of his mouth — promising one thing to one member and another to a different member.
It led finally to a revolt inside the party, with Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) leading the charge to oust him.
"Bub bye you craven, feckless cuck," remarked X user @JoJoFromJerz on Wednesday.
Others posted the infamous photo of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) sporting sunglasses and looking delighted as she exited the White House during Donald Trump's administration.
"I’m sad to report a Biden loss. Kevin McCarthy will be leaving Congress next month. This is a loss because President Biden always won when Kevin McCarthy was negotiating across the table," said the activist account "Biden Wins."
"Time for George Santos to move to Bakersfield and do the funniest thing," joked X user Ben Jacobs.
User Jon Cooper's responses were flooded with gifs when he asked how folks felt about the resignation. There was the infamous "Bye, Felicia," to "Get to steppin'" from the 1990s TV show "Martin."
"Hope it was worth selling your soul!" replied one person. Another posted a meme reading, "You'll never get the stink of Trump off you."

"Apparently there is some limit to Kevin McCarthy’s humiliation fetishism," noted Miranda Yaver.
Jay Black mocked: "He said he and his party have accomplished all the nothing he set out to achieve and there wasn’t any more nothing for him to do."
It was just reported on Tuesday that former GOPer Liz Cheney claimed McCarthy had threatened freshmen Republican Caucus members with primaries if they didn't support Trump's election protest on Jan. 6, 2021.
