Donald Trump mulls backing daughter-in-law Lara for next Republican Party chair: report

It’s all in the family when you’re former President Donald Trump and a Republican National Committee chair is up for grabs, according to a new report from the New York Times.

Lara Trump, the former president’s daughter-in-law and wife to his son Eric, is being considered to receive his endorsement, the Times reported Monday.

Three people told the Times that R.N.C. general counsel Michael Whatley is Trump’s top choice but that he is also considering Lara, according to the report.

Lara Trump has proven able when it comes to raising funds as is her loyalty to the family, the Times reports.

Trump campaign and Republican National Committee representatives did not respond to the Times’ requests for comment.

This news comes as rumors circulate that current R.N.C. chair Ronna Romney McDaniel plans to step down after the Feb. 24 South Carolina primary, according to the report.

Trump’s endorsement is not the be-all end-all, the Times notes. The new co-chair must run for election among the 168 committee members.
