Liz Cheney lobs epic parting shot at 'angry' Elise Stefanik in anti-Trump memoir

MSNBC's Rachel Maddow read some of the most explosive passages to viewers from former Wyoming Congresswoman Liz Cheney's new memoir "Oath and Honor," during which she discussed how her decision to stand up to the former president and her entire party unfolded behind the scenes.

One person she had particularly harsh words for was Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY), who later went on to be voted in to replace her as chair of the House Republican Conference.

"Other members said they were upset that my impeachment vote had caused them trouble at home. They thought I should have provided them cover for their votes against impeachment," read Maddow.

In particular, she emphasized: "I had heard this same complaint from an angry Elise Stefanik of New York. She told me that, because of my vote to impeach, people were writing letters to the editors of her local papers criticizing her and asking why she hadn't taken the same 'principled' stand I had."

"That seemed less my problem than hers," the book continued. "Many of us who had known Elise since before she abandoned all principles were curious about how she had lost her sense of right and wrong."

Stefanik has been a target of criticism not just over Trump but over her support of a number of other far-right elements within the party, including her refusal to vote to meaningfully punish Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) for antisemitic conduct.
