Luigi Mangione indicted on 1st-degree murder charge in health insurance CEO's killing

The 26-year-old Ivy League graduate accused of gunning down the CEO of UnitedHealthcare earlier this month has been indicted on first-degree murder charges.

Luigi Mangione was indicted Tuesday in the assassination of Brian Thompson, the Manhattan District Attorney's Office announced. He was also charged with two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, four counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a count of fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and a count of second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument.

Alvin Bragg, the Manhattan district attorney, told reporters it was a "brazen" and "targeted" killing.

Mangione faces up to life in prison if convicted.
