Ahead of the State of the Union address, the co-hosts of "The View" complained about the demise of civility and decorum in Congress.

They attributed the beginning of the end to Republican Rep. Joe Wilson of South Carolina, who shouted "you lie!" at then-President Barack Obama in 2009. The move was so unacceptable to lawmakers that an overwhelming majority of Congress voted to chastise him for it.

Co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin said that she remembered the moment and that Republican Rep. John Boehner of Ohio was firmly behind the public rebuke of Wilson.

"The first clip was the shock on their faces when they heard it," recalled Sara Haines. "The rest of them, it became status quo. I tend to think — call me old-fashioned — I like the good old days of diplomacy and civility.

"I also have always said that, you know, I want to be an example in the world of the parents who raised me and the children I'm raising. So, everywhere you go, your living example is louder than any word you could say, and this is not a great example."

She noted that there were times Democrats booed when George W. Bush talked about reforming Social Security.

"I do remember some of those moments, but no other moment like the Obama moment, and I think it showed a disrespect for the office of the presidency because there was a Black man in that office," said Sunny Hostin.

The women showed clips and photos of Georgia Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, who kept standing up and shouting during last year's address by President Joe Biden.

Joy Behar also highlighted an interview Greene did with a British reporter Tuesday in which she cursed at the questioner for asking about conspiracy theories and "Jewish Space Lasers."

"Okay, this woman makes Sarah Palin look like Eleanor Roosevelt, okay," quipped Behar. "She and that other one, Lauren Boebert who is doing a sex act in the middle of a movie show of Beetlejuice, okay?

"This is who is in Congress right now. So, for you to expect the decorum to be better is a pipe dream. As long as these people are sitting."
