Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) said on Wednesday that she would vote against making Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) the next Speaker of the House because he is fighting cancer.

After the Republican caucus nominated Scalise for Speaker on Wednesday, several Republicans suggested they would prevent him from getting the necessary 217 GOP votes in a House floor election.

"I just voted for Jim Jordan for Speaker on a private ballot in conference, and I will be voting for Jim Jordan on the House floor," Greene announced on social media. "I like Steve Scalise, and I like him so much that I want to see him defeat cancer more than sacrifice his health in the most difficult position in Congress."

"I lost my father to cancer and it's a very serious battle," she added. "We need a Speaker who is able to put their full efforts into defeating the communist democrats and save America."

Reps. Lauren Boebert (R-CO), Thomas Massie (R-KY), Max Miller (R-OH), and Chip Roy (R-TX) also suggested they would vote for Jordan.
