Jimmy Kimmel blasted the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) on Thursday night, after the group announced on Twitter that Sesame Street characters are "not invited" to the 2022 event.
"The latest thing that the anti-cancel crowd wants to cancel is Sesame Street, after Big Bird endorsed (COVID-19) vaccinations for kids," Kimmel noted. "So now CPAC announced via Twitter that Elmo is not invited to their festivities. Elmo is out, and so are Big Bird, and Bert and Ernie. I love that they think this is clever somehow."
"So the gang from Sesame Street is not welcome at CPAC in Florida, but don't worry Miss Piggy is still invited especially after she did so great at last year's CPAC," he added, as a photo of Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz speaking at the event appeared on screen.
"The truth is, Sesame Street wouldn't have been allowed to be there anyway, because by next year it seems likely that Matt Gaetz will be a convicted sex offender," Kimmel said.
Congressman Gaetz (R-Florida) is of course under investigation by the Department of Justice for allegedly sex-trafficking a minor. He has denied wrongdoing.
