A federal prosecutor who handled criminal cases against Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell is challenging her firing earlier this summer.

Maurene Comey filed a lawsuit Monday claiming that no other plausible explanation for her abrupt dismissal exists other than she is the daughter of former FBI Director James Comey or her perceived political views, reported the New York Times.

“The politically motivated termination of Ms. Comey — ostensibly under ‘Article II of the Constitution’— upends bedrock principles of our democracy and justice system,” her lawsuit stated. “Assistant United States attorneys like Ms. Comey must do their jobs without fearing or favoring any political party or perspective, guided solely by the law, the facts and the pursuit of justice.”

Comey's lawsuit names as defendants the Office of the President, the Justice Department, Attorney General Pam Bondi and others.

The 10-year veteran prosecutor, who also prosecuted Sean "Diddy" Combs over the summer, was among the most highly respected federal trial lawyers in New York City, according to multiple reports.

She was fired as the White House faced questions from President Donald Trump's own supporters about the release of investigative files related to disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein.

The Justice Department and the FBI released a two-page memo in July that contradicted Epstein-related conspiracy theories that had previously been promoted by Trump, Bondi, FBI Director Kash Patel and Deputy FBI Director Dan Bongino, and the administration continues to face criticism about its handling of the matter.
