Dem curses out Republicans at hearing for 'not making this country safer again'
House Oversight Committee/screen grab

Rep. Melanie Stansbury (D-NM) used profanity to criticize her Republican colleagues because she said President Donald Trump's policies "are not making this country safer again."

During a Wednesday hearing on sanctuary cities before the House Oversight Committee, Stansbury argued that the proceeding was "about intimidating state and local officials, attacking law-abiding immigrant families, and spending millions of dollars of taxpayer dollars, both in the administration and in Congress, to make ads that are complete smoke and mirrors trying to say that Donald Trump has somehow secured America's safety."

"What they are doing is not making America safer," she insisted. "In fact, it's a total and complete lie, because Donald Trump has failed to actually even secure the border."

"Here we are, Donald Trump, where's your immigration bill?" the lawmaker asked. "Oh, wait, you don't have one. That's right, because none of this is actually about making America safer. In fact, all of this is making America weaker."

"He's dismantling our federal law enforcement that would actually go after cartels and drug traffickers."

Stansbury noted that Trump's administration had fired many senior FBI officials and U.S. attorneys.

"So let's be real about that," she said. "Is this really about making America safe again?"

"The DOJ is intimidating our mayors, and my colleagues across the aisle are producing TV ads to try to pretend that they're making this country safe again," she observed. "It's total bulls--t, absolute bulls--t."

"They are not making America safer again, and what they are doing is terrorizing immigrant families."
