With the ongoing saga of former Rep. George Santos (R-NY), Israel's War and the off-year elections, John Oliver hasn't had much time to focus on the new House Speaker: Rep. Mike Johnson (R-LA).
Oliver continued the hilarity about Johnson and his son sharing their internet activity to hold each other accountable if they're searching "adult-related" content. Oliver noted that the sad thing for Johnson's son, Jack Johnson, is that he gets a window into his future by seeing his father's search history like "shampoo for thinning hair" and "knee clicking cancer?"
Oliver played clips of Steve Bannon, who touted Johnson as "one of the intellectual architects" in the attempt to overthrow the 2020 election. So, for a Republican Party desperate to move on from 2020 and Jan. 6, putting Johnson in charge brings it quickly to the forefront.

Reporters began asking about his 2020 involvement on day one, leading members to boo and yell at them to "shut up!" But the questions aren't stopping, and there's now a concern whether Mike Johnson will try to use his power to stop the 2024 election. Donald Trump has already indicated that if he loses it means the election is "rigged."
This week, CNN reported on a foreword that Johnson wrote for a right-wing manifesto. The content of the book outlines how to use "Black Lives Matter" to start a race war by "pandering" and spins the Pizzagate conspiracy as legitimate. Johnson hasn't clarified if he believes the hoax. It also trashes poor voters as "unsophisticated and susceptible to government dependency."
But when asked about it, Johnson's office said in a statement that he only wrote the foreword because the author was a friend. He didn't really read it and certainly doesn't endorse it. The problem, however, Oliver explained, is that Johnson himself would disagree with that.
In his podcast with his wife Kelly Johnson, the now-speaker says, "I obviously believe in the product, or I wouldn't have written the foreword. So, I endorse the work. Look, I love the book ... Everybody can go and get the book. I highly recommend it."
Oliver explained that won't be the last thing uncovered about Johnson, the problem is that he's already the speaker. The GOP didn't spend any real-time vetting him and preparing for the truth to be revealed.
"It's too late. He's already speaker. For all of the fear of a second Trump term, it's worth remembering our current speaker of the House is an anti-LGBT bigot, who believes in more accountability for his son's search engine history than he does for the people who tried to overthrow the government," Oliver closed.
