House Republicans lashed out at Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) on Tuesday after a closed-door meeting about a stopgap government funding bill.

As funding was set to run out at midnight on Friday, House Republicans continued to squabble about a continuing resolution that would prevent a partial shutdown.

"It's a total dumpster fire," Rep. Eric Burlison (R-MO) told reporters. "I think it's garbage. This is what Washington, D.C. has done. This is why I ran for Congress to try to stop this. And sadly, this is happening again."

Burlison noted that Johnson was prepared to add a billion dollars to the budget even as Republicans were celebrating the creation of President-elect Donald Trump's Department of Government Efficiency, chaired by Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy.

"We don't know what's in it," Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) said of the funding bill.

"We need to get a better process in place," Rep. Harriet Hageman (R-WY) agreed.

However, right-wing Republicans appeared to be in the minority as congressional negotiators told Reuters that a tentative deal had been reached to keep the government open. The bill was expected to add $100 billion in aid for disaster relief and $10 billion for farmers.
