MSNBC pulls plug on press conference after Mike Johnson offers 'misleading information'

For the second day in a row, MSNBC producers dropped coverage of a press conference by a Republican lawmaker for insisting that Democrats bear the blame for the government shutdown due to Democrats wanting to allow undocumented immigrants access to Affordable Care Act benefits.

On Wednesday, MSNBC host Chris Jansing had the audio from Vice President JD Vance silenced after he told reporters, “The Chuck Schumer-AOC wing of the Democratic party shut down the government because they said to us, we will open the government only if you give billions of dollars of funding to healthcare for illegal aliens. That’s a ridiculous proposition."

That led Jansing to interject, “So that is not true. So let me tell you several points that are true. The Democratic-proposed continuing resolution does not provide free health care to undocumented immigrants, nor are Democrats advocating for that.”

After Vance was fact-checked, MSNBC resumed coverage of the vice president taking questions.

On Thursday, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) was not so lucky.

"There's been a lot of talk about they say that we're making this up, this illegal aliens receiving taxpayer benefits. It's a talking point, they say,” the GOP leader told the assembled reporters before claiming, “Joe Biden used executive orders and he expanded benefits, health care to Illegal aliens."

Once again, MSNBC cut off the audio, with host Anna Cabrera warning viewers, “Okay. I want to pull out just to make sure we don't offer misleading information when it comes to what the facts are and what the laws are.”

“I can tell you that the us law prohibits undocumented immigrants from gaining federally subsidized health care, whether that's Medicaid, the Affordable Care Act, Children's Health Insurance Program or otherwise,” she added. “It's actually a 1996 law that establishes that, and the Democrats aren't looking to change that law. And as far as the Affordable Care Act subsidies, there is no access for undocumented immigrants to get Obamacare. That's just the fact right now.”

Cabrera then turned to her guests for commentary and MSNBC ended the video feed with Johnson still speaking.
