More than 30,000 absentee ballots will be recounted on election night in the most populous city of a crucial swing state, according to new reports.
Poll workers in Milwaukee, currently grappling with historic turnout as voters cast ballots for Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump, will likely work late into the night, CNN's Sara Sidner reported Tuesday.
"The doors of one of its tabulating machines were open, it hadn't been closed properly," Sidner said. "They want to make absolutely sure the machine counted everything properly."

Sidner noted that the extended count time harkens back to the election of 2020, which Trump notoriously tried to wrestle away from President Joe Biden.
"That is important," Sidner said. "If you remember, back in 2020, it was the absentee ballots, and waiting for those to be counted, which we heard Donald Trump and the Republicans jump on."
At the time, conservatives linked the delay to "some kind of malfeasance," Sidner said. Despite those claims, Biden claimed Wisconsin with 49.4 percent of the vote.
Election officials said Tuesday nothing appeared suspicious, Sinder said.

"Officials are saying this is not the case," Sidner said. "They want to make, out of an abundance of caution, sure each and every vote is properly counted."
