Conservative commentator Scott Jennings declined to answer questions about his former boss, Sen. Mitch McConnell, as speculation grows over the 84-year-old senator's health.
The CNN contributor, who worked on several of McConnell's Senate campaigns, claimed two weeks after the Kentucky Republican was hospitalized that he'd spoken to him for 20 minutes – but that was over 35 days ago – and he dodged independent journalist Nicholas Ballasy's questions when confronted on the street.
"Do you think he needs to put out a video?" the reporter asked Jennings, who had greeted him but stopped responding once he realized the topic was McConnell. "Scott, do you think he needs to put out a video of some sort at this point? Do you plan to visit him while he's in D.C. at his house?"
Jennings continued ignoring the reporter's questions and crossed the street.
"Do you know why he hasn't put out a video yet?" Ballasy said. "When was the last time you were able to talk to him?"
McConnell's office said last week he had been released from a rehabilitation facility after falling at his home and then recovering from pneumonia, and they said he would work from home but offered no timeline for his return to the Senate.
His team issued two photos of McConnell seated in a hospital bed alongside his wife, Elaine Chao, but those have failed to end speculation about the health of the elderly senator, who is retiring when his term ends in January.
