Watch: George Conway mows down Republicans' 'unprincipled and shameless' defense of Trump

Attorney George Conway on Wednesday dismantled the "what-about-Hillary" defense of Donald Trump offered by Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) and others.

The former president was arraigned Tuesday on 37 federal charges related to his "willful" retention of classified documents and his efforts to conceal them from the government, and Trump's GOP allies have sought to compare his alleged crimes to classified materials stored in Hillary Clinton's email server.

"It's absolutely ridiculous, and it makes no sense in particular because this unequal justice argument aligns the fact that Trump wasn't charged with simply having these materials," Conway told MSNBC's "Morning Joe." "He wasn't charged with taking them out of the White House. He was charged with doing all of the things, you know, leaving apart the differences between the kind of information that was in Hillary's emails and the kind of information that was in Trump's boxes."

"Trump engaged in obstruction in a way that Hillary did not," Conway added, "and it's just a huge difference, and among many others, and the fact that Rubio can say these things shows that he is completely unprincipled and shameless -- and getting worse."
