'Political heroin': Morning Joe rips GOP primary voters for getting hooked on Trump

MSNBC's Joe Scarborough wondered whether Republican primary voters had become addicted to losing, because they keep picking candidates who stand no chance of winning a general election.

The "Morning Joe" host has been keeping a list of GOP election losses since Donald Trump won the White House in 2016, and he has been laying the blame at the twice-impeached, four-times-indicted ex-president's feet.

"The Trump culture of winning – are you ready?" Scarborough said. "Now, after last night's results, Trump and his Republican Party have lost the elections in 2017, 2018, 2019 -- hold on, let's see -- no, they also lost in 2020, they lost in 2021, so maybe they won in 20 -- no, no, Trump Republicans lost in 2022 and they lost in 2023."

Trump-endorsed candidates, especially those who have embraced his election fraud conspiracies, have been on a losing streak ever since he won the GOP nomination the first time, and Scarborough suggested that primary voters are largely to blame.

"They don't really, the crazy thing is, you look at these primary voters – they don't really care," Scarborough said. "Donald Trump is the political heroin of losing. Take a shot of 2016 and lie back smiling while your party loses in 2017, '18, '19 '20 and coming back in 2024."
