'They will answer for this': Morning Joe predicts GOP will pay a price for border sabotage
Joe Scarborough (MSNBC)

MSNBC's Joe Scarborough predicted that Republicans would pay a political price for blocking a border security deal that gives them almost everything they've wanted.

The bipartisan bill appears on track to fail in the Senate, while House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) has declared it dead on arrival in the lower chamber, and the "Morning Joe" host called them out for following Donald Trump's orders to block the bill so he could run on border security as a campaign issue.

"Ask the question whether they're smart enough to get away with it, which I actually, you know, started thinking over the past couple days," Scarborough said. "You've got all of these Republicans who are following this guy from Louisiana, who just sort of stumbled into the speakership and doesn't seem to be that effective. This guy is now putting around the Republicans' political neck an open border for the next eight months and all that that brings, the collapse of Ukraine, to former Soviet KGB agent's invasion, and the refusal to fund Israel in its time of need."

"So you have all of these Republicans in the House, a lot of them who want to do the right thing but they're blindly following this young, inexperienced speaker who is blindly following a guy with 91 counts against him," Scarborough added.

Support for the bill has cratered in the Senate, where majority leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) said Monday morning that he remained optimistic that it would pass, and Scarborough said they were making a mistake.

"They're doing it in an election year," he said. 'There's a cost, there will be a cost. They will answer for this."
