Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) blew up at NPR on Monday over a report that Trump was reportedly considering the dismissal of Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth over the still-unfolding "Signalgate" scandal.
Nothing could be further from the truth, she posted on X.
"NPR is lying!!" wrote Greene. "Another reason we must completely defund NPR! Pete Hegseth is not being replaced. He’s doing a GREAT job as Secretary of Defense! Now will their donors stop donating and subscribers stop subscribing for being spoon fed fake news?"
The article in question stated that, "The White House has begun the process of looking for a new leader at the Pentagon to replace Pete Hegseth, according to a U.S. official who was not authorized to speak publicly. This comes as Hegseth is again mired in controversy over sharing military operational details in a group chat." Specifically, weeks after Hegseth shared military plans with a reporter in a Signal chat, he reportedly shared similar details in a chat with his wife and brother.

There are no outward indications Trump is actually seeking to replace Hegseth, a former Fox News personality, as secretary of Defense, and Trump, for his part, has denied this, calling the whole story "fake news."
Greene has repeatedly called for defunding NPR and PBS, which are primarily funded by corporate sponsorships and donations but also rely on the federally backed Corporation for Public Broadcasting to issue grants to independent local radio stations to be able to carry their content.
She recently held a congressional hearing on pulling funding from public broadcasting, where Democrats stepped up and used the hearing as a forum to denounce her actions and highlight the pain rural areas, in particular, would experience from such a move.
