'MTG opportunistically approached': Code Pink distances itself from lawmaker after photo

Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene shocked the internet on Wednesday when she shared a photo of herself with volunteers from Code Pink, an anti-war organization.

Greene, who recently explained why she only supports Donald Trump for president, posted several photos on social media earlier Wednesday.

"The war in Ukraine must END! Today, I met brave @codepink activists who protested for peace in Bernie Sanders’ office," Greene said. "He had 11 of them arrested! Peace & free speech shouldn’t be a partisan issue. We don’t agree on most things, but we do agree Congress should STOP fueling the war in Ukraine!"

POLL: Should Trump be allowed to run for office?

Numerous people in the comments of Greene's post pointed out that the feminist organization's position is incompatible with that of Greene, who hopes to strip Ukraine of outside funding. Others simply attacked her.

"The fact that you meet with far-left pro-communist regimes is another proof that the Horseshoe theory is 100% true. You’re a POS," wrote the popular group called Republicans against Trump.

MSNBC host Mehdi Hasan apparently jumped to criticize Code Pink for working with Greene, but later deleted those posts after a clarification from the activist group.

For its part, Code Pink said there "has been some confusion about an image that was taken w/ CODEPINK volunteers & Rep. Marjorie Taylor Green."

"MTG opportunistically approached our volunteers in a parking lot on the Hill and she requested they take a photo together," she said Wednesday.

"Our volunteers weren’t sure how to respond & immediately reached out to us about what happened after the fact. This picture was not initiated by our organization," the group clarified.

The group then concluded: "There is a difference between being anti-war and not wanting funding for Ukraine War. To be anti-war, you must be an internationalist."
