Reacting to members of Elon Musk's DOGE team digging through troves of U.S. citizens' private information at the Social Security Administration, MSNBC host and former RNC chair Michael Steele had a meltdown on Sunday morning.
While noting that the Department of Government Efficiency staffers are also looking at information on child support payments, and Republicans are seeking to gut Medicare, the co-host of MSNBC's "The Weekend," finally had enough.
"Just real quick on that point about the savings," he told co-host Alicia Mendez, "having, you know, managed the affairs of my mother before she passed away on Medicaid and my dad now on on Medicare. There are no savings there! I mean, you know, why are there no savings, folks? Because the government won't allow you to save! You can't accumulate income, there's a cap in how much you can have in your bank account, and that's roughly $6,000 if you're married. If you're not, it's half that."

"So you know, if you're only allowed a certain amount of money to accumulate in your bank account or in order to be on Medicaid, for example, where do you save?" he elaborated.
"And now you're putting these incompetent buffoons in charge of managing the system which they have no clue about, number one," he continued with his voice rising. "And number two, [they] are sitting there making judgments over getting your private personal information and what are you going to do with that, Elon!?"
"Exactly why do you need my parents' information? Why do you need their –– and then, of course, this little ditty," he added. "You've got DOGE now going out trying to access sensitive child support information. Why do you need to know who's paying child support? Why?"
"Why are Republicans allowing him to have that kind of access?" he then exclaimed.
