'The heatshield has melted': MSNBC panel pounces on Elon Musk's multi-million dollar flop

The inability of billionaire Elon Musk to win a Wisconsin Supreme Court seat for conservatives despite dumping an estimated $26 million into the race had the hosts of MSNBC's "Morning Joe" reveling in his humiliation on Wednesday morning.

Late Tuesday liberal judge Susan Crawford defeated far right conservative judicial candidate Brad Schimel by over 200,000 votes in what the New York Times is calling a "stinging rebuke" to both Musk and Donald Trump.

With that in mind, and after Musk put so much work into getting his candidate across the finish line only to fall way short, MSNBC host Joe Scarborough compared the loss to Musk's recent SpaceX rocket failures.

"Didn't Elon Musk say just a couple of days ago that western civilization would rise or fall with this election if Democrats didn't lose? "Scarborough wryly noted."

"He said humanity's destiny rises, rides on that particular seat," co-host Jonathan Lemire contributed. "So grand stakes he was clearly willing to go all in, make this a –– and they lost. "

"Okay, I mean it's hard to understate what a massive victory this was for him and what a massive loss it was for Elon Musk, " Scarborough replied. "I mean, Elon Musk put himself front and center and I think it's safe to say after last night in Wisconsin, the heat shield has melted; it did not hold together coming back into earth's atmosphere and, man, again just think: Wisconsin media-wise, it's a small state. He spent tens of millions of his own dollars handing out million dollar checks. I mean, they went all in on this race and lost big, double digits, lost by ten points in a race that was decided by less than one point in November."
