Former Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem may be out of her high-profile Donald Trump administration job, but she is still the subject of tabloid fodder with a member of her husband’s side of the family suggesting her post-DHS life is headed for increased marital strife.
In an interview with the California Post's Caitlin Doornbos, an unidentified relative claimed that Bryan Noem has remained loyal to his wife despite reports of an alleged affair with Corey Lewandowski, a longtime Trump associate serving as a "special government employee" in her DHS operation.
According to the family source, Bryan Noem justified his loyalty on religious grounds. "He said he decided about 20 years ago that it was his calling from God to support her in whatever she decided to do. So he has put up with the humiliation. We will see if he sticks with her now," the relative reportedly stated.
The source expressed doubt about the sustainability of this arrangement: "I think it's him honoring the calling from God, but it seems like there would be some limit to that."
The relative also criticized Kristi Noem's treatment of the broader Noem family, alleging: "She despises the Noem family." The family member added that Bryan Noem attended her congressional grilling during hearings on ICE operations and noted: "I actually liked that he sat behind her while she was grilled on the ICE atrocities. I think he's ignored the reality. Maybe he has to face it now."
The alleged affair with Lewandowski exploded into wider public view during House hearings this past week when Rep. Sydney Kamlager-Dove (D-CA) directly asked Noem: "Have you had sexual relations with Corey Lewandowski?" Noem responded defensively: "I am shocked that we're going down and peddling tabloid garbage in this committee today."
Trump fired Noem the following day.
