An FBI raid at the home of a Russian oligarch is connected to another case in New York, according to a bureau spokesman.

Federal investigators conducted "law enforcement activity" Tuesday at the Washington, D.C., home of Oleg Deripaska, an ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin and longtime associate of Donald Trump's former campaign chairman Paul Manafort, reported CNN.

The FBI spokesman declined to provide more information about the case, but a source told CNN the investigation has been "ongoing."

Deripaska was sanctioned by the U.S. in 2018 in response to Russian election interference two years earlier, when Donald Trump defeated Hillary Clinton, but he filed a lawsuit earlier this year in an effort to get the sanctions lifted.
