Women Should Not Be Assumed To Be Consenting Unless They Say Otherwise

A couple of websites have covered this story of a Swedish judge who let a rapist go, even though the rape victim did her due diligence in taking "responsibility" to not be raped by screaming "No!" until she was hoarse. The judge's reasoning is that the rapist didn't believe no means no, so we can't assume he intended to rape her.

Does Free Speech Mean That Women Are Obliged To Endure Harassment?

That is the fundamental question behind a case that the Supreme Court will be hearing about "buffer zones" in front of reproductive health clinics.

Gun Nuts: Perhaps You Should Just Stop Acting Oppressed By The Dead Children

I'm sure most of you have seen it, but it's one of those items that makes it clear how much gun nuts have moved past shrugging off mass murder and are circling ever close to celebrating it.

Is S.E. Cupp The Dumbest Pundit Working? An Examination.

Is S.E. Cupp the dumbest pundit working today? It's an interesting question, especially in light of heavy competition from the likes of Dylan Byers, but some recent opinions that have sprung from her brain give me cause to believe we may have a winner here.

Why Won't Obama Just Give Them A Sex Act To Impeach Him Over?

Via Digby. As with Bill Clinton before him, conservatives have been casting around for some kind of reason that Obama needs to be impeached since roughly the beginning of his administration, and, as with Bill Clinton before him, the desperate digging has only increased during the second term. As with Clinton, most of the attempts are laughable, amounting to nothing more than empty code words that conservatives will hope somehow snowball into an actual scandal. With Clinton, it was "Whitewater" and with Obama it's "Benghazi", and with both it's idiotic. But they got lucky with Clinton, in that he got a blow job, and blow jobs are something that are both real and easily understood by the American public. Obama, being obstinate, has not provided the right with some adulterous sex that is guaranteed to dominate the news cycle and result in the pretext for an impeachment. The desperation for that has grown to the point where someone just decided to make one up.

David Brooks Has So Much To Be Ashamed Of, And Doesn't Even Know It

David Brooks wrote a column today that was so stupid that I think it can actually be considered an own goal, where he literally---no joke---argues that because his own experiences with marijuana smoking suggested to him that it's not the best use of your time, other people should go to jail and have their lives ruined over it.

Keep the Saturn in Saturnalia

The "war on Christmas" once again proves to not exist, but continues to be an imaginary war being used to justify actual abuse of non-Christians and anyone who might believe that Christians should not be upheld as superior to everyone else. The latest example happened in South Jersey. Freedom From Religion decided to respond to a big banner that's flown over the street in Pitman, NJ every year that reads "Keep the Christ in Christmas" with a billboard on the highway that says "Keep the Saturn in Saturnalia". Local residents are not handling the cheeky reminder that the Winter Solstice was once a pagan holiday that Christians stole because they knew they could never stop people from celebrating it.

Conservatives Should Be Thanking A&E For Suspending "Duck Dynasty"

With a plodding inevitability, the ignorant screams of "free speech" are coming from the usual suspects in the wake of Phil Robertson of Duck Dynasty getting suspended for his homophobic remarks in GQ. (He was also mind-bogglingly racist, but for some reason, that hasn't been as sticky a story, maybe because his racist comments were a little more complex than his homophobic ones.) Sarah Palin, who is quickly making "dumbass" seem like an inadequate descriptor, said this:
