WASHINGTON — Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) lost his second floor vote for Speaker on Wednesday – this time he had three fewer votes than his first vote, which gave him 200.
But Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN) told Raw Story he thinks Jordan should still stay in the race.
"I think there's a lot of people who want to put him through the wringer, just to further prove their point," he said on Capitol Hill. "So, it took Kevin [McCarthy] what? Fifteen counts? And he made it, so... It shouldn't take 15, I hope it doesn't take 15. Jim has been addressing people's concerns and a lot of it is personality issues and things like that."
POLL: Should Trump be allowed to run for office?
McCarthy was elected speaker after 15 ballots in January – only to be ousted from the position earlier this month.
Outside of the House, Jordan told reporters: “I think we gotta decide today, are we going to have a Republican speaker or … is the body going to adopt this resolution with the speaker pro tem?”
Rep. David Joyce (R-OH) proposed there should be an embrace of Rep. Patrick Mchenry (R-NC), who has been serving as acting speaker in the meantime.
