Donald Trump's former lawyer and nemesis Michael Cohen told Raw Story on Wednesday that the deposition for Trump's $500 million lawsuit against him isn't until Oct. 9 in Florida. It means there was no reason for Trump to leave the trial in New York other than his own ego, according to Cohen's description.
"The deposition of Donald is scheduled for October 9th and all indications are that he will appear," Cohen said via text message. "As to any question relating to his premature departure, contradicting the Southern District of Miami’s Order, I leave that to the judge for determination."
"I'd rather be in New Hampshire or South Carolina or Ohio where a lot of other places. I'm stuck here," Trump lamented upon leaving the courthouse shortly before 1 p.m. EDT.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Edwin Torres chastised the former president for agreeing to the earlier deposition date despite knowing it would overlap with the New York trial.
Trump's lawyer swore “it was imperative that he attend his New York trial in person — at least for each day of the first week of trial when many strategy judgments had to be made," Bloomberg News reported last week. “Plaintiff insisted that he would be prejudiced if he could not do so."
It could potentially mean Trump was fearful that without being there he couldn't adequately defend the integrity of his company.
At the time Trump's lawyers made the claim in Miami, New York authorities had no idea Trump was coming to the courthouse and they were forced to rush security plans and procedures.
Now it appears Trump's demand for his deposition be delayed because he had to be in court all week, wasn't true. He ultimately spent half the amount of time he claimed he'd be spending in the trial.
It's unclear how Judge Torres will respond or if it is something he finds objectionable.
