A "lifelong" Republican told C-SPAN that he was saddened after his party voted to strip health care from millions of Americans.

Moments after the House voted to pass President Donald Trump's "one big beautiful bill" on Thursday, a New York Republican named John spoke to C-SPAN's Greta Brawner about the legislation.

"I've been a Republican since I was 18. I'm 74 years old now," John revealed. "And I'm saddened by the way that our government is working."

"This bill, it's going to cut the Medicare and Medicaid, but these people are still going to need health care," he continued. "They're going to show up at the hospitals. Right now, hospitals have to treat anybody that doesn't have insurance, and I agree with that. But what is it going to do with our health care system?"

"I'm very saddened that the Republicans, I've been a Republican all my life, I'm a conservative, but I'm saddened by the way that they have voted for this bill."

As a New Yorker, the caller said he had been aware of Donald Trump for many years.

"And I'm very, very saddened about the way that our government is headed right now," he noted.

"So, John, did you vote for President Trump in any of the recent elections?" Brawner asked the caller.

"No, I did not," he replied. "The most recent election, we had a choice of two evils. And one rang out."

"I'm really unhappy with the way that our president treats people who were our friends," he added. "Canada, Mexico, Ukraine. It's just sad. It's really sad."
