Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. will testify starting at 10:00 AM Eastern before the Senate Finance Committee, a hearing that has drawn considerable attention in the wake of the turmoil at the agency ignited by RFK Jr.’s firing of a top Centers for Disease Control official.
Last week, CDC Director Susan Monarez was fired over reported disputes on vaccine policy, and after, according to former CDC Director Richard Besser, she was asked to do something “illegal.”
While Monarez rejected her removal and pledged to remain in her position, the announcement sparked a wave of outrage from critics, government officials and lawmakers alike, as well as the revolt of more than 1,000 HHS employees, who signed onto a letter calling for RFK Jr.’s resignation.
While President Donald Trump was suspected of not being in favor of the CDC director’s firing, having appointed her to the position himself just months prior, the White House ultimately backed RFK Jr.’s decision.
