Although House Republicans had hoped to use public testimony featuring special counsel Robert Hur as a means to highlight President Joe Biden's alleged memory deficiencies, Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY) had other ideas.

Specifically, Nadler turned the tables and used it to shine a light on evidence of alleged obstruction of justice by former President Donald Trump.

While questioning Hur, Nadler cited evidence laid out in special counsel Jack Smith's indictment of the former president to draw a contrast between Trump's actions and those of Biden.

Nadler began by getting Hur to acknowledge that Biden returned the classified documents in his possession to the government once he knew that he had them.

Nadler then went on to document why the FBI felt it needed to obtain a warrant to search Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort for top-secret documents he had stashed there.

"They were concerned that Trump had lied about possession of those documents and that he might conceal or destroy them," Nadler said.

The New York Democrat then laid out Smith's claims that Trump asked the attorney representing him to falsely tell federal investigators that he wasn't in possession of any of the documents.

"You agree that causing someone to lie to the FBI is a classic example of obstruction of justice?" Nadler asked Hur.

"It is an example of obstruction," Hur said.

Nadler got Hur to acknowledge that Biden never instructed subordinates to hide boxes of documents or destroy video surveillance footage, as Trump allegedly did.

While Hur tried to be evasive and say that he couldn't comment on the specific evidence outlined in Smith's indictment, Nadler did get him to acknowledge that, if true, it would be the kind of evidence prosecutors would use to justify charging someone with obstruction.
